Crestron Eagles Program Donates Theater at Bethesda Naval Hospital
In August 2009, Crestron hosted the third Eagles Program dedication ceremony for the Wounded Warriors Battalion - East at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, unveiling the new home theater donated to provide comfort and entertainment for America's heroes recovering from injuries sustained during combat overseas. The installation would not have been possible without the donations and efforts of industry partners. AVI-SPL installed the system, ICD did all the programming, and the other vendors kindly gave the necessary equipment.
Blueprint for University AV
AV was essential to the image Florida Atlantic University wanted for its Office Depot Center for Executive Education, a two-story, 15,500-square-foot addition to the Barry Kaye College of Business that opened early this year on the main campus in Boca Raton.
"They were looking for as high-quality and technically advanced a system as they could get within a certain budget," says Martin Lois, sales engineer at design/build integrator AVI-SPL, which worked on six spaces in the center.
Modesto JC Overhauls '50s-Era Facilities for State-of-the-Art Audiovisual Production
In order to accommodate new state of the art equipment for its audiovisual programs, California's Modesto Junior College (MJC) was looking not just at rewiring a building, but bringing 1950s-era building construction up to 2009 standards--a huge undertaking by any measure.
Integration areas of this innovative project include: an 820-seat proscenium theatre; a 74-seat proscenium theatre; an 1,800-square-foot television studio; a 1,500-square-foot rehearsal studio; two radio production and on-air studios; and an audio recording studio.
Pride of the Yankees
For the Yankee Stadium AV project, AVI-SPL, Tampa, FL, was a subcontractor for Unity Electric. The $5.7 million contract was completed in March 2009 after a two-year duration. Looking at the scope of Yankee Stadium AV integrated systems, AVI-SPL was responsible for providing engineering for the audio and broadcast cabling, as well as the distribution of television (SMATV) systems. The audio system includes a fully digital sound-reinforcement system comprised of a digital console, digital signal processing (DSP) and amplifier control to more than 625 speakers in the seating bowl and 675-plus speakers in the back of house systems and suites.
Dubai Mall: LEDing the way
One of the world's largest single showcases of commercial LED technology, the Dubai Mall houses more than 571 square meters of Barco LED screens worth more than US$30 million. The project's sheer scale and ambition made it the runaway winner in this year's Sound & Stage Awards for AV Installation of the Year.
Sound Field
Oriole Park at Camden Yards has housed the Baltimore Orioles since its unveiling in 1992 and continues to be a favorite among baseball enthusiasts. The park recently benefited from the installation of a brand new distributed sound reinforcement system, featuring nearly 300 loudspeakers from EAW. The installation, completed in time for the Orioles' season opener against the New York Yankees, was finished in just six months, which is approximately half the amount of time a system of this magnitude would take to install under normal conditions.
