Green Initiative
AVI-SPL is an active member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is part of a "Green AV" initiative working as a catalyst to ensure that audio and video systems support green building standards.
Commenting on the initiative, Chad Gillenwater stated, "Last year, we completed a large AV project at the new headquarters for the New York City Office of Emergency Management. This building was the city's first green agency headquarters. While working on the project, we realized that the AV industry was behind in responding to the demands of designing and building Green Buildings."
AVI-SPL cooperates with AV integrators, manufacturers, consultants and associations to get the message to corporations that AV technologies can save energy and generate carbon credits. Those collaborations include partnerships with Polycom, Tandberg, and Draper, three vendors who have done research in this area, to quantify the savings from using videoconferencing rather than air travel.
Additionally, AVI-SPL offices are piloting formal sustainability plans. The final, company-wide plan will use standards-based Green Building practices to conserve energy and improve the quality of the work environment. LEED Certified Projects
AVI-SPL specify energy-efficient equipment from manufacturers with environmentally-conscious factories and products when ever possible. In the integration process, control systems can be installed to turn off idle equipment and manage lighting, heating and cooling for unoccupied rooms. These efforts help customers to save energy, money and the environment.
