Madison Square Garden Sound System

Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

Design and Installation

Challenge:

Imagine vibrant digital signage displays that excite the crowd at the latest sporting event, and dynamic sound systems that enhance the concert experience. Make an impact -- quickly and impressively -- with exceptional audio and video systems, ensuring that your message is distinctly seen and heard. AVI-SPL offers the best in state-of-the art technology, providing AV systems that are easy to navigate and seamlessly wired to give you control at a single touch.

Solution:

A tight time-frame made this project a challenge, with a completion deadline geared for September 2001, just in time for the first game of hockey season. As the design and planning phase had finished and installation began to take place, the tragic events of September 11, 2001 bought everything to a halt.

The Madison Square Garden project resumed and was completed by September 22, 2001. Each application of the system allows for even coverage of every seat, with the audio system tailored for the ultimate entertainment experience. While the prior audio system used only four speaker clusters, the new system distributed eight primary clusters of loudspeakers, with an emphasis on optimal placement to achieve the Garden's aesthetic and audio goals. Increased system dynamics were achieved by the use of 16 Bag End Quartz subwoofers. Delayed distributed loudspeakers were utilized as well, forming a circle that is set up about 80' into the arena. This configuration allows for extended audio coverage to the upper-most levels of seating, as well as the exterior seats of each luxury suite. Additionally, the underside of the main scoreboard hosts eight additional loudspeakers, used primarily for courtside seats during basketball games.
