USF Marshall Student Center AV Systems
University of South Florida, Tampa, FL
Challenge:
The University of South Florida (USF) has grown tremendously since the construction of the original student center in 1960. Although major renovations had taken place in the '90s, growing enrollment and an ever increasing line up of college club meetings, fundraising activities and campus entertainment led to a more fervent need for new accommodations.
With a formal dedication ceremony scheduled for April 15, 2009, the new four-story Marshall Student Center would stand as an innovative foundation for cutting-edge technologies, including digital signage applications, enhanced speaker systems and the latest in projection and control system advancements. In developing this project, AVI-SPL received a great amount of collaborative support from Beck construction, TLC Engineering, Multimedia LED and USF.
Solution:
The Marshall Center's 1,100-seat ballroom is the perfect setting for fundraising dinners, conferences and special guest lecturers. At approximately 10,200 square feet, the space is easily divisible into three areas, and features systems that can work independently and simultaneously, or as one large space. Highlights include lighting control, a high performance audio system, electric projection screens, 1080p projectors and a wireless control system.
High brightness projectors are also featured in the 700-seat auditorium, with more than 20 individual speaker enclosures mounted all around the room. The set up includes left and right main speakers over the front of the stage and under the balcony, left and right subwoofers, overhead center channel speakers above the screen and main delay/fill speakers. The tiered-style Senate Chamber room is capable of hosting a variety of event functions. The control system offers ease of use and enables the room to be preset in various configurations, perfect for formal meetings of the student government university leaders. In addition, 10 small conference rooms and four large conference rooms feature standard projection and audio playback of video/data programs.
A multimedia LED billboard in the 57-foot Atrium creates a stunning and creative display for upcoming events and advertising. Visix digital signage provides an additional medium for displaying messaging throughout the facility, including by the elevators on each floor.
While dining, the Beef O'Brady’s sports bar allows patrons to view one of eight different satellite sources. They can also listen to one of 8 different audio sources via "Sound Dog" wireless tabletop speaker systems.
Finally, all control systems are tied into USF's network, enabling monitoring and control from a computer.
