Gaylord Texan Resort AV system
Gaylord Entertainment, Grapevine, TX
Challenge:
Located six minutes north of the Dallas Fort Worth airport, the $480 million Gaylord Texan Resort Hotel and Convention Center needed AV systems installed throughout the venue connecting the convention center, hotel, amenity locations, and public areas. The Gaylord Texan includes 1,511 guest rooms and 400,000 total square feet of meeting space in the convention center complex. Additional areas feature the 180,000 square foot exhibit hall, 70 meeting/breakout rooms, contemporary sports bar, three ballrooms and boardroom.
Solution:
Our engineering and installation teams decided on a Crestron solution to provide the control functions for this massive venue. One of our team's goals was to create a centralized, independent lighting network via Ethernet for a groundbreaking installation that pushed the boundaries of both system design and scope. The lighting system utilizes Crestron e-Control software, with communication rooms located in the convention center and the hotel. Lighting scenarios for any room in either facility can be controlled from these remote locations. Handheld PDAs provide wireless remote control of any room.
Additionally, the Gaylord Texan's boardroom AV is based around a permanent Draper 60" x 80" glass rear projection screen, a Barco projector, an electronically-operated front projection screen, and a 5.1 surround system. Additionally, the site's contemporary sports bar features nine Barco projectors shooting onto an 890" x 45" transparent acrylic projection screen, as well as 12 40" Barco LCD displays. A 45' wide, 16' high custom Stewart screen dominates the main room of the bar. Three Barco projectors shoot onto the screen creating one image. All AV elements can be controlled from a VJ booth featuring a 15" color video touch panel. There is also a wall mount touch panel for basic control located in the bar.
The backbone of the resort's network is comprised of three V-LANS (or virtual LANS) for control, audio signal routing and processing, and digital audio over Ethernet distribution. The Crestron e-Control system connects all the systems together and ties into the lighting system, and also allows technicians access to the network from anywhere in the huge facility, as well as via the hotel-resort's server from anywhere offsite.
Equipment Highlights:
