NEOUCOM Auditoriums

Challenge:

Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy(NEOUCOM) is a community-based, public institution that provides interdisciplinary training for health professionals. The NEOUCOM educational consortium includes the main Rootstown, OH campus, as well as eight teaching hospitals, 10 associated hospitals and two health departments.

Renovations were needed to accommodate the growing student population and their newly enhanced study programs. The college planned for major renovations of two auditoriums -- Olson Auditorium and Liebelt Lecture Hall -- both located on the Rootstown campus. The new AV integration system would foster top-notch facilities, with the best and latest educational technology available.

Our company was selected to design and build the technical AV system, and was responsible for meeting the requirements of the Board of Trustees and University officials. Our team would also take into careful consideration the needs of the faculty and students.

Solution:

The design intent for both facilities was to provide state-of-the-art technology that would equip the instructors with the ability to effectively share data, video and audio content with the students. The educational tools that the instructors were used to having -- such as whiteboards, chalkboards, 35mm projectors and overhead projectors -- were still available, but now fully upgraded. Our team integrated interactive whiteboards, interactive pen displays, high-resolution slide-to-video converters and digital document cameras. This newer technology allows students to more clearly view content, versus the traditional tools that had previously been utilized. In addition, the infrastructure, routing equipment and supporting equipment for these rooms were designed and installed to support future videoconferencing and streaming applications.
